Ideas

With over 25 years of local government work experience as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional, zoning inspector, and Kingsville Township Trustee, I believe I have a variety of skills to offer the township. From managing budgets, to interacting with other government agencies, to dealing with contracts and vendors, to assisting the public with their concerns, I’ve dealt with a wide range of situations that a township trustee faces.

My goal as trustee has always been to preserve the character and history of our township while taking us forward using the latest technology and ideas.

During my first 2 terms (2018-2025), I feel I have been able to achieve this goal through a variety of projects, including:

  • Completing the construction of the new township garage that provides more than adequate space for equipment and supplies, dedicated offices for both the road superintendent and fiscal officer, a new spacious meeting room with remote meeting capabilities, and heated bays to allow for easier vehicle maintenance.
  • Working with Ashtabula County to host a recycling drop off point.
  • Providing yard waste drop off and clean up days to help residents maintain their properties and reduce refuse and leaf burning.
  • Improving our roads like paving Fox, Cemetery, Mill, and Dibble roads and chip-sealing a number of roads like Brydle, Wright, Priest, Academy, School, Sheldon, Donna, James, Miller, Kingsbury, Arbor, and Creamer.
  • Working with the Kingsville Infrastructure Revitalization Committee (KIRC) to bring sewers to the I-90 interchange using 3.5 million in Federal and State grant money.
  • Creating the Lulu Falls Nature Trail to highlight a scenic local landmark and provide a new recreation area for residents.
  • Building a digital sign in the township park to keep residents informed of local events.
  • Maintaining the township park by removing dying trees and planting new ones. Also by installing decorative light fixtures and new picnic tables to increase safety and usability.
  • Assisting the Kingsville Township Foundation in developing plans for a new gazebo that will better accommodate the needs of the community and built out of durable materials to last for many generations.
  • Renovating the Fire Hall to better suit the needs of our paid part-time staff and prepare us for 24/7 service.
  • Purchasing necessary equipment like a fire truck, dump truck, and excavator without incurring additional debt.
  • Developing a township website to provide important information and updates like meeting minutes, event announcements, form downloads, and contact information.

Looking to the future and my goals for another term, my priorities include:

  • Providing 24/7 Fire/EMS service which will require finishing our fire hall renovations, attracting additional qualified first responders, and purchasing updated equipment. In addition to the work on the fire hall, we are also actively acquiring quotes for a new or used ambulance to stay on pace with our vehicle update plan.
  • Maintaining our road infrastructure. Now that most of our roads are paved and chip-sealing technology has greatly improved over the last decade, we have a plan to keep our roads in shape that involves a mixture of chip-sealing many roads and periodic paving of major high-use routes.
  • Updating our zoning to not only eliminate outdated policies but also to address new issues like wind and solar interests, marijuana outlets, and commercial development at the interchange. My goal is to protect personal property rights while also helping to maintain the small town charm of our community.
  • Leveraging technology to its fullest advantage. Whether it is new construction methods or software tools, I don’t think we can afford to ignore innovative solutions just because we are a small rural community.

These are just some of the accomplishments I am proud of from my time in office and ideas for where I would like to go moving forward. I feel I still have the skills and resources to pursue and achieve these goals and hope the voters of Kingsville Township will give me another 4 years to prove it.
